Cristiano Alves
Cristiano Alves began his musical studies at the age of seven and when he was ten he had his first contacts with the clarinet, at the Music Band of the Colégio Salesiano Santa Rosa, under the guidance of Maestro Affonso Reis. Born in Niteroi, he was a student of José Carlos de Castro and received guidance from many of our great Brazilian clarinetists as well as numerous international and renowned professors. He holds several awards in national competitions and graduated with Summa cum Laude at UFRJ, where he also completed his Master Degree. He is now attending to his doctorate in music at Unicamp. He participated in more than one hundred recordings, including performances with great artists of the MPB, as well as chamber and symphonic music. He frequently plays abroad, and is often invited to perform recitals, concerts and master classes in countries like USA, Britain, France, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, Argentina, Venezuela, Uruguay, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam. In 2005, he released his first CD, which figured as a finalist for Tim Award and considered one of the three best releases of classical music in Brazil. He acts as first clarinet soloist in the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra and Petrobras Symphonic. He is the professor of clarinet in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and his students earned countless major competitions and occupy prominent positions in orchestras and universities. The referred clarinet course was indicated to the Banco Real Award as one of the top three university courses, among all areas and institutions of Brazil in 2004. He teaches at various music festivals, such as those held in Campos do Jordão (SP), Jaraguá do Sul (SC), Buenos Aires and Mendoza (Argentina), Curitiba (PR), Brasília (DF), Ouro Branco (MG) Tatuí (SP), Recife and Olinda (PE), Domingos Martins (ES), Campos (RJ), apart from giving regularly workshops in several cities in Brazil and South America. Cristiano Alves is an "Rossi", "Bay" and "Gonzalez" artist.
